I've had this watch for I think four years now, and it's worked great. It keeps really good time, and after the initial charge, it seems to be fine with just whatever light it picks up during the day. The only slight problem I have had is that sometimes the clasp comes open when I'm working around the kitchen.

I really like the Eco Drive system and I have just purchased an Eco Drive diving watch, and I hope to get years of good service from that watch, too.

This is one nice watch! Like the gold-tone color (which is sometimes hard to find now), big, easy to read face, love the eco-drive feature (no batteries, ever!) and so far, is definitely waterproof! Band has removable pins and links for adjustment to accommodate several sizes of wrists, however, would have preferred an expansion band. It is a little on the large size for a watch, so if you have a very small wrist, may be too large for your liking. This is a very nice, dressy looking watch. Very happy! Would purchase again!

We shopped around quite a bit before settling on this Citizen Eco-Drive. It's a heavier watch than expected, but not too heavy to bother you. The contrast of the watch hands with the background is much nicer than the same watch without the diamonds. Small diamonds are just enough to stand out but not too showy. There are different sized links that can be removed making for an easy custom fit. Best of all: Amazon's price! A few cons that were overcome: it came dead, absolutely NO power. That was disappointing as it was a gift that didn't work. We set it under a light for 24 hours and that did the trick. (Note: My wife has had a citizen eco-drive for 5-7 years...the watch needs to be exposed to daylight or it will eventually lose power...recharge under a light.) Setting the watch took a bit of time as the buttons were touchy. A CD is included if reading the directions becomes too confusing. Now that it's been up and running, no problems and quite a few positive comments from friends.

In the picture the face is white hands are gold. No problem right? Well the face has a gold tone to it so the hands blend right in to it. Also the dates and hand are so small they too are impossible to read. If you don't want to tell time than this is the watch for you.

I have owned this watch for over three years and it has never failed me. It looks good enough for dress ocassions yet is durable enough for every day life. It has always kept good time and still looks new. I dont always wear it and it sits on my coffee table for long periods of time with only minimal light. It has still never lost time. The only detractors are the fact that there is no perpetual calander so every so often you have to set the date (months with less than 31 days). The main reason I only gave this watch four stars is the band is a hair puller. It is a minor nuisance but it is constant. I though about changing the band but I really like the looks of this band and the clasp is ingenious. It holds very well and does not come open until you are ready to take it off which is easily done by pressing two side buttons. So overall I am very happy although I may have to shave my wrist.

I have had this watch for 4 years. It was a gift from my wife one Christmas when we still had money. During my career as a Letter Carrier I always wore $12 Casios because I had a habit of smashing the crystals. The G-Shock lasted the longest. This Eco-Drive is the finest watch I have ever owned. As a retiree, I can wear it for any occasion and every day. Only one tiny problem I have is that I can't read the day of the month. A magnifier would have been nice, but I don't need to know the date anyway. I really don't get out that much, so occaisionally I will put it under a light for a while, but it really doesn't seem to need it. It has not stopped or even lost a half a minute since I got it.

My previous watch was this TIMEX flix watch that I received as a gift many years ago. It was a great watch, but I was tired of replacing batteries everytime my watch died, which was every two years. Also, I never had anything elegant enough to wear with a suit for any formal events.

I bought this watch for myself back in the middle of March for an amazing price. It was my first real analog watch. In terms of aesthetics, it goes with anything I wear. The two-tone color scheme was a good choice for me. The gold color dresses it up for any formal occasion, while the silver color dresses it down for a casual occasion. The very dark blue dial is nice to look at as well. Plus, the rechargeable battery inside is guaranteed for 5 years.

The band itself is made out of stainless steel, which is quite nice. I like the locking mechanism -- quick to put on and take off. I was afraid that the band would pull on the hairs on my arm; luckily, it doesn't at all. Because it is stainless steel, it will probably corrode in the presence of salt water. So if you take it into the ocean or sweat a lot, it's good to rinse it off now and then. There's a little protective sticky thin layer of plastic on the back face of the watch, which can be peeled off to reveal a very shiny back plate. Because the bands of all of my previous watches were made out of rubber, I was used to getting flexibility in the band. In contrast, with this particular watch, the band is stiff at the top and bottom of the band. At first it bothered me because I wasn't used to it, but after a couple days wear, I actually prefer it over flexible bands, for the watch face stays in place on a single side of my arm.

In two months time, many superficial scratches have appeared on the band, which I suspect is from constant rubbing against a metal button on a jacket. This is to be expected, for the band is constructed from stainless steel, which scratches easily. However, the face cover is made from a scratch-resistant mineral, which so far is completely spotless -- not a single scratch to be found.

In terms of precision, quartz movement is accurate for ±15 seconds within a month. With my watch, I calibrated it 2 months ago according to http://www.time.gov/ . It gained approximately 20 seconds over a 2 month period, which is well within the tolerance for quartz movement. I'm quite satisfied with it.

It doesn't have a perpetual calendar, meaning that it always cycles through 31 days, but it's easy enough to set the correct day if needed. The hands on the dial have some sort of fluorescent coating on them -- meaning that it glows in the dark for a several hours, with the intensity of the light gradually decreasing over time.

In short, I really like this watch. I like how the face is not huge and doesn't stand out immediately. The face size and band size fit my frame well (I'm 5'7"). It tells the time, and it's fairly accurate. The two-tone color allows me to wear it for any occasion, and it's not terribly expensive compared to the many other brands out there. Overall, I'm very satisfied and would not hesitate to recommend this watch to anyone.

I really liked the Corso model Citizen watch for women. The styling is conservative and classic. It reminds me of a classic Rolex Oyster watch.

The only cautionary word I would have is: Make sure That the watch is exposed to light,(sunlight is better) and that you continue to leave the watch in the direct light for at least half an hour a day for a few days. If you do not do this the watch will not keep the day and date correctly. Other than having to figure this out by trial and error (the instructions do not have you do this long enough) the watch and its style is great.

Nice dressy, but not gaudy, watch. Looks much better "in person". Wrist band especially stands out. I own another Citizen Eco-drive in silver color, but got this one because I like the gold for dressier occasions, but truth be told, I wear it almost every day. Maybe I lucked out, but the wrist band fit my wrist with no adding(which is good because there are no extra links included) or subtracting of links. All-in-all, I'm really happy with it!!

I chose this as a present as this Citizen has a larger dial than most other womens watches, with easier to read day display. In addition, the crown is easy to handle, unlike many other ladies wathces, since it is just a tad larger than most. This makes it easy to pull out, and adjust. You'll never have to wind it as it recharges using natural or artificial light. It has been keepeing excellent time. Now she never has to worry about resetting her watch after putting it down for a while, like she had to do with the automatics.

I got this watch one month ago. Without any extraordinary activity or any inappropriate wear, the front of my watch got one crack that goes across the entire face, and multiple scratches that make seeing the date almost impossible. Scratches to the face are not covered under the warranty. Even after I asked for an exception due to the extreme short length of time of ownership, Citizen would not budge. I made it clear I would not buy another Citizen watch again, and the customer service man said, "That's your choice." For almost $170, I would certainly expect higher quality and better customer service.

As an owner of several similar style chronographs, including Seiko and another Citizen Eco-Drive, this is the watch I wear daily. I find this watch exceptional. Some of the complaints others have mentioned seem to be just a little picky in my opinion considering the context. Most of the "cons", like the size of the digital display and fact that it is not back-lit, are addressed in more expensive models such as the JY0040-59L. Subjectively, this is probably more of an issue with those of us with "over 40 eyes" anyway. Yes, the instruction manual could be a little easier to read but after the initial setup, how often are you going to use it anyway?

For the features one purchases a watch of this caliber... style, quality, comfort, reliability, functionality and accuracy (both my eco-drives are better than +/- 5 sec/month!), I don't see how you can go wrong with this watch, ESPECIALLY for the price (I paid $220 for mine). On top of this you get a watch that is as beautiful as it is functional along with the confidence and assurance knowing it's a Citizen! If you're sitting on the fence whether or not to get this watch... buy it, you won't be sorry!

I love my Skyhawk. It's almost the perfect watch.

I bought my first Skyhawk in Tokyo, at the legendary Akihabara. It was a titanium model, and it quickly became my only watch. (OK, we'll ignore my ultra-thin Calvin Klein "airport special", designed to go through metal detectors without setting them off.) I wore it for 6 years, and then I had the misfortune to damage the bracelet. I inquired, and found that I'd have to send it back to Japan for repair, at a ludicrous price. Instead I decided to buy a replacement; this time I opted for this stainless steel version from Amazon.

Why "almost perfect"? Well, as other reviewers have noted, the Skyhawk can only handle whole-hour time zones, and I need to travel to India on business quite often. This is frustrating. On my last trip, a few months ago, I stopped at the watch store in the new Hyderabad airport. I figured that the best place to find a Citizen watch that worked in India would be in India. And I was right - I was able to buy a Navihawk. It doesn't have Eco-Drive, but apart from that it's functionally equivalent to the Skyhawk - plus Indian time zone support! I paid a considerable price for it, but I don't mind: the Navihawk seems to have disappeared from the Amazon Citizen store.

So now I have two Citizen "hawks": a Navihawk, and a Skyhawk. The Navihawk is slightly lighter; the Skyhawk slightly more comfortable. When I'm at home, I pick one at random each morning. But next week, when I head off to Chennai on business, I'll be wearing the Navihawk. Life is good.

I ended up sending it back, so I still don't know what time it is. Maybe I never will.

I bought this watch to replace an Eco-Drive watch that still worked, but was 6 years old and dull looking. I'm a big girl and this watch fits my wrist wonderfully. Those with normal/smaller wrists will probably want to remove some links. The clasp is solid and doesn't snag, the stainless steel is polished to a chrome-like finish, and the light gray face and slim profile gives this a very elegant look. Took a while to get used to the sliver on gray for telling time, but it's not an issue after a few days. This will be my every day watch and can go from very casual to business dressy with no problems. The only downside is that I paid full price for this watch somewhere else, but the last Eco-Drive I purchased through Amazon was too small so I had to return it and pay a restocking fee. Even at full price, I love this watch!

First of all, this is a very nice looking watch and it is fairly accurate (+15 sec/month). However, the biggest problem I have is with the band. The band is very stiff and it snags even very tiny hairs on my wrist. The bad thing is, there are no other bands (not even from Citizen) that will fit the watch because of the way the case is shaped. Also, the hands line up with some of the markers, but not all of them. I understand that this isn't a big deal, but it irritates me a bit. If it was possible to change the band, it would be a pretty great watch.

"A beautiful watch with a few drawbacks" 2010-02-09

This is an eco-drive watch -- meaning that it is solar-powered. I have another older one that is 8 years old so I can say that this system works. This one has an interesting power saving feature that's new -- the second hand freezes at 12:00 when the watch has had no light (the hour/minute hands move along) for 30 minutes. With just a flash of light, the second hand races to the correct position. This is barely noticeable if you aren't looking for it. This battery lasts for over a year on a full sunlight charge -- much more than my old eco-drive.

This watch is beautiful but, for all the dials, you really only use the day-of-the-week dial in normal practice.

It has 4 modes: time, calendar, alarm, and local-time. Calendar is the same as time except the second hand points to the month. I'm not sure how often I don't know the month so this isn't all that useful.

The alarm is very weak - I don't think it would wake you up but it would remind you to do something. It handles time zones well. If you set the alarm to 7 am, it will ring when the watch shows 7 am in time, calendar, alarm, and local time. So, for example, if your normal time zone is EST and you set the alarm to 7 am, it will ring when it is 7 am EST when in Time/Cal/Alarm mode in New York (EST). If you are in California (PST), and you set the watch's local time to PST and mode to local-time, it will ring at 7am PST as expected. However, if you are in California but left your watch in Calendar mode, it will still ring at 7 am EST which would be 4 am PST... so the message is, set the mode to local-time when you are out of your home time zone and to time/cal/alarm when in your own time zone and it works right.

The bracelet seems nice and relatively heavy. Unlike my old eco-drive watch, this bracelet isn't quite as adjustible so it might have to fit a little looser than you'd like.

The crown is generally pushed in. You pull it out to 2 further stops for manipulating the alarm, calendar, time, etc. If you aren't careful, you can make unintended changes. I haven't found the crown out but I have mistaken the first for 2nd stop and changed the time or whatever undesirably.

When setting the alarm, or changing time zones, the hands spin around to the proper time. It is fun to watch the hands spin around when changing time modes or using the alarm but it does take a while for this to happen if it has a long way to go. Realistically, the alarm isn't that loud so I don't know how much I'll use it. You don't change time zones multiple times per day (unless you're an airline employee) so this isn't a big issue.

4 stars: it is a pretty 2 time-zone, day-date watch but has some control issues and only a semi-useful alarm.

This watch is great. It is so beautiful and a great accent for a business man or a club goer. I am a banker and having a great gold watch completes my overall look as a professional. I have rather large hands and wrists and the watch was still a little loose, however, this is a good thing. For one there are people with larger wrists than I have and some people prefer to have a looser fitting watch. I took mine to a jeweler and they had a link removed in two seconds. The overall fit and finish of the watch is unbelievable. The little details are what really turn me on the this watch (I could name them but they're already listed). The little dvd it comes with is awesome it makes you a little expert on the watch and there are many things to learn about it. Would absolutely buy again.

I bought this watch as a wedding present for my husband. We were careful to make sure it received adequate light. After 15 months, the watch stopped working, and we were unable to restart it even following Citizen's recommendations. We have obtained estimates for repair from two different reputable watch repair services, both approximating $200. The watch is beautiful and has sentimental value, but I'm reluctant to spend the money on the repairs. Who knows how long it will work after that? I'm very disappointed as I thought this was going to be a reliable, life-long watch.

I've owned this watch for a few weeks now and I am very happy with it. I disagree with the reviewer who thinks that the day/date are very small. They are about the same size as my other watches (and much larger, of course, than the markings on my wife's watch). I have no trouble reading the day/date with or without my glasses.

The watch feels solid, sturdy and has some heft. If you're looking for a thin, light-weight watch you should consider another model. The Eco-drive system works as advertised. With the quick-start feature, I was able to start using the watch the next morning.

It seems to keep very accurate time, after synching this watch with an atomic clock, it has stayed in perfect synch for 2 weeks.

This watch is designed just the way I like it. Simple and elegant, yet it smacks of quality. This watch is not small. It's big, bold, and easy to read. Using stainless steel and a thick front crystal, this watch is not lightweight either and you will feel its weight as you wear it. With that said, this watch is not "big and gaudy", nor is it too heavy. I consider it to be a "standard size aviator style watch" and I think it's just the right size, weight, and look. Unlike many black-face watches, there are no red or yellow highlights on this watch which makes it a little more dressy and less sporty than similar watches. The numbers and date window and inner dials are easy enough to read. There is a very handy stopwatch feature which is simple to use and fun to play with. The outer rotating bezel requires strong fingers to rotate it and it only rotates in one direction which makes it very unlikely to get bumped around. The leather strap is thick enough and wide enough to handle the weight. I much prefer leather to metal for compfort reasons.

Cons: The second hand doesn't move. Instead, the second hand only rotates when using the stopwatch feature. Citizen opted to use one of the inner dials to indicate the seconds for the current time. This is a minor nit-pick and it just takes some getting used to. When you first look at the watch, you are inclined to think it is not running (when it is). I wish this watch would indicate the day of the week.

I can't comment on the eco-drive feature, but it seems like a good idea. If this watch runs for more than two years without a battery change, then I will be happy. The owner's manual says this watch will run in complete darkness for 6 months before the batteries fail and then you can simply rechange the watch with exposure to artifical or natural light. Sounds great on paper.

I wanted a simple, elegant watch with no battery change worries and no date change issues. This watch meets all my expectations and more. The two tone band looks great, very classy. The white dial with black roman numerals is simple yet elegant. I have got many compliments on how beautiful this watch looks. Also, this watch is super slim. I removed 2 links using a 1mm screw driver to adjust the length of the band. This was easy to do and can be done at home. I've had this watch now for close to 6 months and it keeps very accurate time. Love the solar functionality and will definitely consider buying another eco-drive in the future.

This watch is a fine product and is very comfortable to wear, but I would NOT recommend buying it on the internet. It comes with no less than four instruction sets for the watch itself, but there are no instructions for adjusting the band, which is of a rather unusual design! While you can get a shop manual for the band from Citizen (which I did) you cannot adjust the band without a 1MM screwdriver (this is smaller than a typical eyeglass adjuster) which is an item you will almost certainly not have in your toolbox (even several watch repair shops couldn't adjust the band for me!). Finally, a kindly Citizen dealer was able to adjust the band to fit my wrist (which made me feel guilty that I had not bought the watch from her), but if you want this watch it will be MUCH easier if you buy it from a Citizen dealer who should have the tool to adjust the unusual wristband.

I had one of these 2 years ago - it suddenly disappeared. That watch had a deep blue face - very nice looking - VERY dificult to read! Why? The shimmer of the glass face with the dark background prohibited easy reading of the watch hands and the numerals.

This white faced beauty is perfect! Light on the wrist, and if you do a lot of computer work - it is sooooo thin that you can bear up to wear it all day while at your desk using the keyboard! Larger thicker bands and watches will normally cause discomfort while doing this kind of work due to the rubbing against the desk while tapping out on a keyboard!

I hightly recommend this watch for it's classic appeal, great time keeping - and it's environmental friendly solar recharging. This is my 5th Citizens watch! And I love this one the most!

Citizen Men's Eco-Drive Promaster Carbon Watch #BN0055-53E

I recently purchased the watch and the first noticeable feature was its XXL size. Even on a big wrist it may appear somewhat oversized but despite this, every design detail makes it look and feel good. Overall, it feels solid and nicely built. I expected for a watch like this to be made in Japan (movement & case entirely made in Japan) rather than "Japan Movt" (only movement made in Japan, while assembled and cased elsewhere), but surprisingly none in the whole series is, whether you spend $300 or $800 (this is the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5). Its large, black dial with luminescent hour marks and hands makes it easy to read under any lighting situation, including underwater; furthermore if exposed to light during the day it glows the whole night. I opted for this specific model as I have been using another Eco-Drive, the Citizen Aqualand BJ2054-51E for the last 4 years and although I loved it I have always been bothered by its excessively busy dial. With this new one, I was looking for simplicity, sturdiness and reliability and so far I'm pleased with my choice. For divers, the carbon fiber bezel offers a nice grip, even with gloves on, which is always a feature to be appreciated. The mineral crystal glass is truly non-reflective and it feels solid but its flush mount with the case makes it somewhat prone to be accidentally hit (and eventually scratched/chipped). I didn't own it long enough to be able to submit a comprehensive accuracy test result but it seems to amaze me with a mere 1 second deviation in 5-6 days, which would result in a remarkable accuracy of only 5-6 seconds deviation per month. The screw-down crown seems to be better built than the previous models as the date adjustment can now be performed without accidentally stopping the watch when actually this was not intended (date adjustment is performed by pulling the crown one notch, while time adjustment requires pulling the crown further, to the second notch). The stainless steel bracelet looks and feels solid and is easily adjustable for various wrist sizes by removing as many links as needed. The expandable clasp sounds like a nice feature for divers but unfortunately it just doesn't extend long enough to allow the watch to be worn over a 7mm wet suit if the bracelet was previously adjusted to snugly fit the owner's writs. The date placed at 3 o'clock doesn't have magnifying glass but, personally I like it this way. Overall a nice watch and with prices expected to go down in the near future it truly makes a very good option for a diver's watch, as well as a day-to-day sport watch.

A final advice: go see it before you buy it - the pictures are deceiving about the size; it's BIG.

I have been looking to get a Citizen Eco-Drive Dive watch (I'm a scuba diver) for my self and this one finally came down to a price I could live with. This is a very well constructed watch. But beware this watch has some serious size and weight to it. I own two Invicta Dive watch's I bought about 8 years ago and they are OK watch's but they don't come close to the quality of the Citizen. Good Watch for a Good Price.

I just received this watch and I will agree with the previous reviewer that it takes a few minutes to set up, but the instructions are clear and once it's done, it's easy to maintain.

If any gripe at all, the rubber strap is too large (and I have a large wrist) and there really aren't any adjustments you can make to it other than physically cut it down...but it appears the strap is designed just for that.

I shopped around quite a while for a simple, elegant, and thin-cased watch to replace a 15 year-old Seiko, whose time had run out. The case had lost its integrity due to the many battery changes. Well, this Citizen supposedly doesn't need battery replacement due to its constantly being charged by light. We shall see...so far so good.

The only con is that the day/date is a little small and difficult for these old eyes to see; but it "ain't" going back. Everything else is simply beautiful about it.

i bought this watch as soon as i saw it. the retro look is awsome. get complamints when ever i wear the watch. the saphire crystal still has no scratches. this is my dress up watch. i can put it waay yo a week or so and it is still charged. charges with ant type of light sun or inside under a lamp. this is a no frill watch but very classic. no bells and whistles to go wrong with just a great watch. i love this watch easy you change bracelet lenght if need be. the only flaw is the claps it is stiff it needs a shot of jewlwes oil and your on your way. i cant say enough about this watch very classy for a low price ar 1002-56a if you want a no frill classic watch this is it it looks much richer than the price.

I really treasure the watch. It is exactly what I was looking for. It is thin and quite comfortable on my wrist. It looks sharp and is a great conversation piece. How many people do you know with a solar powered watch ... and one that doesn't look like a piece of technology too!

Charging it has turned out to be no problem ... as I left the watch in full-sun for several days. NOT having a charge indicator IS a drawback. It is hard to KNOW when you need a re-charge. Other Citizen watches tell you they need charging by the behavior of the second hand. This watch has no second hand.

The band is especially comfortable, something that is important with any metal-link band, although the clasp is difficult to work. It requires that you press two 'buttons' -- one each on either side of the band -- to release AND connect the band. The action is tricky, and may not be to everyone's taste. It is a llittle awkward.

Be warned that the watch is ONLY water resistant. Do not wear it while doing the dishes!

Lastly ... my watch appears to run slow ... losing roughly a minute every two days. This may only be MY watch. I have contacted the seller and am waiting for a response.

Update -- CAUTION. The seller explained that the watch runs slow because it is not being fully charged. When I explained that the watch had sat in full sun for two days and still ran slow, the seller stopped communicating.

"great, but costly repair" 2009-09-02

Excellent watch. I love it.

I bought this watch a few years ago. I have gotten many compliments on this watch over the years. One person saw it on my hand and thought it was a Rolex. I can't speak for how accurate the watch is. I have not had any issues with it keeping the time, but I wouldn't notice if the time was off a little.

The only issue I had with it was when i dropped it. the minute and hour hand stopped moving. I sent it in for repair, and I got a bill for $115 to fix it (parts, labor, tax and shipping). I did a search for it and came up with around $250-300 to buy a new one. I just think that the price is too high.

I've owned this watch for about 4 years now. Just some comments on what I've experienced with it.

The dial window, being mineral, scratches easily. I have already replaced it once.

The watch band and case is a combination of a polished stainless steel and a brushed stainless steel. The polished parts tend to scuff and scratch easily. Cost me a pretty penny to get it polished out, so now I don't wear the watch as much as I used to.

Adjusting the time is also a little "odd". When you pull out the side button to adjust the time and you go to adjust, the minute hand moves, but it stops at every minute marker. So changing the time is a bit of a chore. So I usually don't take this watch with me when I travel to a different time zone.

I have the Citizen Men's Eco-Drive Calibre 8700 Watch #BL8000-03A, and adjusting the time on that watch is as you would expect. You turn the button as fast or as slow as you want and the arms move accordingly.

I do have to say, of all of my metal banded watches, this one is the most comfortable. It's a good looking watch, all in all, but just be careful with it, because it easily scratches. If you tend to be hard on watches like I do, might want to look for a watch that's mostly, if not all a brushed stainless steel or brushed titanium.

I'd have to agree with everybody here. This watch was definitely a nice add to the "collection" and I find myself choosing to wear it at least as often as even the most expensive watches I own. I, too, truly appreciate the perpetual calendar with the leap year function.

As can be expected, though, it takes a bit to figure out how to set the time/date/etc and I'll have to keep the manual somewhat handy since it's not necessarily a pull-the-crown-and-adjust-the-time affair like simpler watches.

Overall, it's a beautiful watch and I'm very pleased with it!

If you're undecided whether you should buy this watch or its counterpart with a blue face, here's your answer: Go for this one! I've had a chance to compare this item side by side with the blue face Calibre 8700. The latter is more popular but pales in comparison to the elegance of the black and white faced dial. The black, white and gray contrast each other so well it goes along with any conceivable wardrobe that you may have. The bracelet is equally handsome and distinct. Setting up the watch may initially be cumbersome, but with the help of the included interactive CD guide, it's a cinch even for non-techies. Also compare the price on Amazon with a regular jeweler's and you'll know you're getting a really great deal here.

I purchased this watch as a replacement to my fossil watch I have had for about 3 or 4 years. I always wanted a Citizen watch and decided to get on for my birthday. Out of the box, I loved this watch's look. Vintage, but modern, full of features, and Citizen reliability. Looks good on my arm and looks a lot more expensive then it really is. It takes a little time to set the time, day and calender but once you do, that's it. I highly recommend this watch and I'm almost certain I'll be getting another in about 5-7 years or however long it holds up.

I was hesitant to buy this watch because the photo makes it look like it might be a very light gold color, or perhaps would be a pinkish gold. Nope, it's a regular color. It is nicely detailed and looks lovely on the wrist.

I gave this to my mother for mother's day, and she loved it. Generous expansion band that she had to get shortened - much better than being too small. Citizen is good quality, so all in all you will be very pleased with this watch.

I've been going from store to store looking for a very small elegant bracelet watch for months now. Most small bracelet watches are two toned, have a black face, and/or no hour markings. I have to say I was not completely thrilled when I purchased the watch, but was thrilled when I actually received it. The picture does it no justice! So here is a small personal description. The actual band is smaller than an eraser head. The watch face is about the size of a dime in hight and a little smaller than a dime in width. The face isn't white. It is more of a matte silver metallic color. The band has a "smooth" pave type finish which will be resilient to scratches. The best part is that there is a protected groove going down the middle length of the band that is shiny as all get out! It is very feminine, slinky, and has a lot of class. It goes perfect with my wedding ring, but is small enough to fit in any casual occasion. An amazing deal for the price. I only have one question. Is the watch waterproof and how many feet? I do not recommend women with very large wrists to buy this watch. It does not come with an extra link. I have a "medium" sized wrist and it fits me perfect. For ladies with small wrists, this is also a great buy because bracelets usually hang a little, but a link can be taken out professionally. A comment was made about it possibly scratching someone when worn. I have to disagree with them. Definitely a great watch and brand... especially for the price! A+A+A+

I've owned this watch for well over 5 yrs (the length of the manufacturer's warranty...) and love it! I get so many compliments on it. People comment on how small it is and how versatile--wear it to the gym or a wedding and it fits right in! It is so small that it isn't something that necessarily catches your eye as often bulky watches can. The only problem with my watch is I lost it! This watch is durable. I've accidentally dropped it from a standing position and it's hit the ceramic tile floor several times. Still accurate and unscratched! My son accidentally slid it down the sink drain a couple yrs ago and it sat in the trap for several mins while I figured out how to remove the pipe to retrieve it. Still ticking! Kohl's website says it is water resistant to 167 feet (haven't found that mentioned elsewhere). I'm unsure about that claim as the standard seems to be 30 feet and 167 is pretty deep! But I've gotten it wet (even submerged for a few seconds) numerous times without a problem. The jewelry clasp could be a little more secure as over the years it is more sensitive to coming undone--hence the reason I most likely lost it! But it's been tugged at while being worn and used to always stay on no problem. You can take out the links to fit it to your wrist, too. And it rarely spins around. Where you put the watch face, the face stays; it doesn't pull your arm hair or snag your clothes either. It does have rather sharp edges on the outside of the band which has unfortunately minimally scratched people depending on how it's rubbed them, myself included. But I'm pretty active with a small boy & dogs, so my usage may not necessarily be typical. But if it can stand up to all I put it thru, it's a great watch, indeed!

Listen ... this looks like an awesome watch, and I've been looking for one with this type of toughness built in, but it seems like all the top retailers including Amazon.com have it at EXACTLY the SAME PRICE. We know all about "SUGGESTED RETAIL," but it bothers me that in this tough economy it might hint at PRICE FIXING that all these retailers have the watch at $446.25. This watch, and it's steel brother, are commonly known as the Eco-Zilla's. I prefer the titanium version because of it's light weight. The watch is built like a tank. The rubber band doesn't just use spring bars to attach. Each end of the band fits into a machined openings and then then there is a metal ring that screws into the back of the case that secures the band. You aren't going to loose the watch due to a broken spring bar. 5 stars as a tank diving watch.

I consider this to be the ultimate tool/dive watch. Here is why:

Movement is as robust as they come. It's very specise, gaining about 3 seconds in the last 3 month. Crystal is 5mm Thick. Lume is very bright.

The bezel can be removed and cleaned and the rubber strpa as well. There are 3rd party adapters available for this watch to let you wear it on any strap or bracelet you like. Just google zilla adapters.

I have worn much more expensive watches and not only those watches require EXPENSIVE maintenance, they do not provide anything that this watch doesn't do.

Lets not kid ourselves. This is labeled as a watch but it is truely a diving instrument. The size is correct, measuring approx 51mm, but doesn't seem so wide due to it's extreme width; approx 21mm. I personally like the height as this is a divers watch and anyone who buys a "true" diving watch should be expected to wear a rather large timepiece. I'll rate the attributes,1(bad)to 5(good), to help you out, the rest is up to you. Size is a 5, it's a diver's watch! An Omega or Rolex may be water resistant, but not practical when diving. This watch screams business. Lume is a 4. I like the blue, and the fact that it glows for a long time, but just not a bright as some other models that I've experienced. Accuracy is a 5. Eco-drive is great, with little/no maintenance(a lot better than the fluctuations from a spring balance).Ledgeability is a 4. You can tell what time it is from across the room. In fact, the minute hand, with contrasting orange flouresence seems 3-D and seems to jump out of the watch. The date is the minus here, as it is a very small window and easily obstructed by the hands(even the second hand?) Construction is a 4. I have the Ti version with the rubber strap, which is light, but would have liked a quick-clasp rather than a "large" buckle. I think the bracelet version would have been a real issue since the lug width is approx 31mm, and would look big on anyone's wrist. I love the watch, and it receives a lot of feedback when worn. Again, the more accurate description of this item should be a "diving instrument" rather than a watch, hence it's nickname "eco-zila". The Mineral crystal left me questioning at first, but you'll find that it is extremely protected by the castlated bezel. The bezel has little gutters to let the water drain from the crystal? Sapphire is alway the choice, but should not be an issue for this watch as the mineral version seems very protected. Hope this helps you. This is a great addition to any collection, or someone with an inferiority complex. Cheers!

This is an excellent watch, and matches the quality of watches costing much more. As the other reviewer stated, this watch does NOT have a helium release as the discription says. However, I do not know what model he does have because the bevel IS "sculpted"[which, by the way, makes it easy to turn] Pay close attetion to the specifics, because the watch is big, heavy, and thick. Overall, this watch looks good and performs well at exactly what it is made for. I highly recommend this watch.

Accurate watch that looks great on the wrist and wears well. Not as large as the Orient it replaced, which has turned out to be a benefit- less scuffing. Followed the direction for proper charging the first three days, and have not needed to worry about anything except wearing it.

I would recommend this watch for the person who needs a multi-use watch, or one that can go from work to coaching to workout to dinner. Of course does not have stop watch functions nor will be perfect with tux, but certainly will range from the burrito shop to church.

Only issue is researched online for about two weeks thinking I found a strong set price through Amazon. Two weeks later it was discounted $50.00, and I still need a jeweler to resize. Next time I will go to a local jewelry store for more consistent though higher pricing.

I received this very nice Citizen watch as a gift, and it's a beauty! It's heavy, and features the new Citizen Eco Drive. Light enters the watch through the crystal and dial, and hits a solar cell. The solar cell converts the light to energy, which runs the watch. No batteries of any kind are needed.

The dial is a midnight blue, with radium hands. The watch will look good with just about anything, and is attractive. Masculine, yet not gaudy or gadget-laden.

Also, it's nice to be wearing an analog watch with a sweep second hand, again.

"Wonderful watch, one of my favorites" 2010-03-02

This watch is one of my favorites. I wish the high-end watches in my collection were as comfortable to wear as this Citizen. The design of the bracelet band is especially nice. It doesn't cut like a Rolex, and doesn't pull the hairs on my arm like the Tag H and Festina's. The face is a bit "blingy" but well designed to convey a LOT of date/time information. At the price, I was hesitant to purchase since my previous Citizen watches retailed for less then $50, but I must say that this watch is durable and well made, and I tend to grab it and leave much more expensive watches in the safe. Lots of friends have stopped me to ask about this watch....their brows raise when they see it's a Citizen. Bravo to Citizen for making a luxury model that rivals the fit and finish of watches that cost at least 10 times more money.

First let me say that I really like this watch. So much so that I bought two, a gold and a silver one. This one here is GOLD tone with a BLACK face. The diamonds definitely add some bling, and this watch gets attention. The watch is a very nice size, its not too big, and its fairly thin for what it does.

Let me say up front that this is the first metal band watch that I can wear. Others pull out my hair or are sharp edged and hurt after a while. Some have said it is heavy, and perhaps it is technically, but it fits so well that I notice it less than some other lighter watches.

Now the bad, and its not really that bad. The fact is that for all the cool stuff that this watch does, most of it is not really useable. The alarm is soft. The calendar setting just shows you the month. If I didn't know what month it is, I would have bigger problems than whether my watch is set correctly. The local time sounds good, but switching features takes so long (the hands have to go round and round) that I long ago could have figured it out. If you could put the local time on the 24 hour dial on watch face, this would be much more useful. Also you can only set it to different hours, so that leaves out India, which is a half hour ahead of other times. So it is questionable whether the cool stuff is any use. This drops it from a five to four in my estimation.

That said the watch looks good, feel good, keeps good time and obviously I like it because I bought two. If amazon goes to 40% off it would be a better deal.

First of all this watch is great, my favorite that I have ever owned after over 8 months of owning it. It stands out, looks far better in real life than in the pictures. You will get plenty of positive reaction to it, just make sure to put it away somewhere safe when you are not wearing so it doesn't disappear! The solar powered battery has never given out on me, the quality and craftsmanship of this fine Citizen watch has taken a beating and still looks flashy and brand new. I try to wear it as often as possible.

On the other hand I recommend checking the stores in your area for cheaper deals. With the economy down, many stores are going out of business or downsizing and selling Citizen Watches at a minimum of 30% or more off. Then if you have any sort of other discount(I got an extra 30% off for military discount) it can come out a lot cheaper than online, plus you can get it sized on the spot. I've had this watch about 2 years, and love it. I can't recall it being over a minute off the correct time since I set it. It's simple, and the best thing is it never needs a battery, it just keeps time perfectly. Its very comfortable and I love the way it looks. It's very durable too, I'm pretty hard on watches, never take it off either, not in the shower or to sleep. I asked for this watch for Christmas and got it. Wore it dead the first day (light charges it, so I figured wearing it on a sunny day would be as good a way as any to charge it up), and it has been a champ since. It's a joy knowing the battery will practically never have to be replaced.

I like the stopwatch function. It works with the large red second hand and the top left dial for minutes. It's a cheap thrill to watch the red hand swoosh around the face when you reset the timer.

Definitely a manly watch, with the bezeled metal and inset dials, but not clunky and heavy with a metal band. The band is more nylon packcloth than canvas, as it says, but that is a very fine point. Most people probably wouldn't care about the difference.

The luminous 12, 3, 6 and 9, and bars for other hours are very bright for 4+ hours after I've left work each night.

I've had the watch wet, but not enough to matter. It's promised to be waterproof to deeper than I'd be able to recover.

For the money, you can't beat the features and quality of this watch. Home run.

I was very impressed with how fast this arrived.

I am very happy with the watch except you can't make the date go backwards, only forwards. This is an issue for me because I cross the international date line quite often traveling from Australia to USA, but probably wouldn't concern most people.

It is comfortable to wear on my small wrist and the catch makes it very easy to get on/off.

The glow in the dark hands and hour points is OK (my last watch was a digital so it seems weak compared to a light).

UPDATE (12/6/09): I noticed most reviews are made almost immediately after the purchase and before one has had some solid experience to report, so I thought I'd provide an update. I've had this watch for almost a year and I am still extremely happy with it. The BM6550-58E continues to keep good time and holds up well. I usually wear it several times a week, but also left it for a week or more without recharging with no noticeable effects.

My wife purchased an Eco-Drive lady's watch in the same timeframe and is also quite happy with it.

This review is for the BM6550-58E. I was looking for a stylish watch with stainless steel case and band that does not require battery changes. The watch is a simple analog dial with second hand and a date window. The hour and minute hands glow in the dark. As you'd expect, the time and date are set by the watch crown.

I purchased this watch specifically because of the Eco Drive feature. I wanted to have a timepiece that I could wear day to day without worrying that it would lose time or stop running because the battery needed to be replaced.

I've owned a Seiko Kinetic for about 10 years and when it started losing its capacity, learned while it needs no batteries, the capacitor which stores the electric charge and powers the watch needed to be replaced. So I thought I'd give Citizen's Eco Drive a try.

I've had this watch for about a month now, and so far so good. I wear it daily, and it seems to get sufficient charge from normal use (indoor office on weekdays, some outdoor sun on weekends). It's only gained a few seconds (by atomic clock) since I set it a month ago.
